This is Wordle 52 from The Sunday Whirl and this week’s words are: sweet, richer, dramatic, forceful, tricks, flames, energy, push, glance, exchange, breath, flexible, and blend.
The Dragon and Her Rider
The dragon gave
her rider a forceful push
as if to say let’s fly.
The sky was clear
the breeze sweet
the young dragon
full of energy and tricks
curved her flexible neck
and exchanged a glance
with her rider.
Airborne they became
a dramatic blend of magic
as the dragon’s richer breath
filled with flames.
Rich in its imagery this piece flies. ;) I love high fantasy, Daphne. Great write.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Brenda! I really appreciate your comment! The words were a challenge for sure! Have a lovely day!
DeleteI want to take a flaming dragon-ride! Where do I find a young, eager, fire-breathing dragon, please?.. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour poem's fun!
I want one too! So far I've only found her in my dreams but I'll let you know if I find her elsewhere! Thanks!
DeleteI love the interaction between the dragon and rider and found it charming that this dragon was a 'her,' as usually I picture dragons as male. I wonder if the rider was male or female.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary, and yes, I definitely wanted to define the dragon as female because I think you are in the majority when you say you usually picture dragons as male (have to have both after all or no baby dragons :-( ), but I left the rider undetermined so that each reader could decide on the rider's gender for themselves. For me the rider is also female. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI am a huge fan of fantasy and make-believe and dragons! A lovely wordle for sure!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Marianne!
DeleteFanciful and fun. Very creative use of the Wordle words. It reads as smoothly as flying!
ReplyDeleteThanks, nan! Much appreciated!
DeleteVery short, concise wordle. I would have liked more play between them. Haven't seen a dragon in a poem in a while.
ReplyDeleteI love that you found a dragon in your wordle...she is lovely.
ReplyDeleteA lovely little poem, so nice to see a dragon.
ReplyDeleteDaphne, a delightful read. I like where you took the wordle words. Now, "flexible" for a long neck seems so obvious.
ReplyDeleteRichard
Thanks, Richard! It means a lot to me to have such a nice comment! Have a lovely day and thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI found your piece absolutely delightful. I love dragons and the stories they tell. Met my first one over twenty years ago. Her name was Maranathaheth. She told me it is always very important to ask a dragon for her/his name, because that name is key to the story. You brought back a ton of memories. Thank you,

Thank you so much, Elizabeth, and I am so glad to hear about Maranathaheth. She is right that names are very important! Thanks for stopping by! I'm enjoying following your blog!
DeleteWill you teach me how to ride a dragon too? :}
ReplyDeleteA Whirling Baker’s Half-Dozen
Any time! :-) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThis reminded me of that whole wonderful series of books with both male and female dragons and riders... The Gold Queens being the leader. They communicated through telepathy. I think one of the books was called 'Dragon Song' - but I can't place the author. Wonderful sci/fi fantasy ...oh to fly on dragon back... this is something you can continue...I want more, please :)
ReplyDeleteI think you are talking about the wonderful Anne McCaffery and her books are incredible! And flying on dragon back would be incredibly fantastic! Glad you liked this and I will be writing about more dragons for sure! Thanks, Jules!
